Great post - I (Avery) use MFP to keep track of protein and make sure I’m eating enough of the right stuff to support my training. With four little kids, things can get chaotic, so the app is a nice way to keep track for myself!

Yup. Guilty of getting too tracky!! Done with that!

Super interesting. Never thought of the APP TRAP. Makes sense that it’s common in our data-centric world.

It can backfire for those with perfectionist tendencies

Excellent write up!!!!! I couldn't have said it better myself. It's great for learning how to eat, but NOT intended to be forever and/or used as a crutch. I have seen it TOO many times in clients especially in my 20 years in the sport of bodybuilding. People forget how to eat without the app and get obsessive about the tracking. Disordered eating all the way around.

Yep. It can be an important tool, but also a slippery slope for those who are perfectionists or struggle with an all-or-nothing mindset, as you said. Thanks as always for the great thoughts and contributions, Coach!

I enjoy using them when my nutrition needs a “cleanup,” for a week or a few days I’ll track. But I’m the kind that has the potential to get obsessive, so that’s where I stop. Loved this piece!
